This past Sunday I attended my city's cherry blossom festival. My local comm usually holds a picnic meetup on the park grounds and it was such a lovely day to gather with friends and literally just sit around and eat and talk. It was my first time attending in lolita! Previous years, I went in either cosplay or as a volunteer.
Of course since it was a sakura festival, I decided to go with a classic floral coord using a Victorian Maiden JSK. Wearing short sleeves and a hoopskirt certainly made the warm weather more bearable for me. I also have a rule of thumb that if it's warm enough to wear no jacket outside (like 50degF up), it's warm enough for boater or straw hats. :) The temps only went up to the mid-70s, but it was ridiculously sunny and bright, so everything just felt warmer. I did regret wearing tights instead of ankle socks.
The picnic was wonderful as well, with a lot of people bringing food to share. Unfortunately all of the cherry blossoms had died by the time this event came around, so it wasn't so much of a hanami picnic as it was just a regular picnic. Hopefully, next year's weather will be more forgiving to the trees.
